Distracted
I could blame it on International Delight. They might be the reason I'm so fat. There I was minding my own business in the grocery store, just wheeling the cart down the aisle as I approached the dairy case. I said a little ditty to myself to remind myself what I came here for, as I always do. Dreamsicles and Clam Chowder. Dreamsicles and Clam Chowder-and milk and coffee creamer, I added to my ditty as my memory jogged me. (My youngest is home sick and this shopping errand is at her request.) As I opened the case I made a mental resolve. This would be the day that I would start to lose weight. I would start with a sugar free coffee creamer. I perused the shelves for the only sugar free that I can tolerate, French Vanilla. Then I saw it. I saw a NEW coffee creamer. Most definitely NOT sugar free. This hadn't been there last week. Almond Joy! Immediately my resolve went completely out the window. I didn't even try to get it back.
I was distracted.
I went home and put away the groceries and had myself a tiny spoonful to see if it was as good as it sounded. Did it really taste as good as the candy bar? MMMM! I smiled as I put the container in the 'fridge. There is just one thing to be done about a coffee creamer so good it completely throws me off my weight loss groove for the week.
Ban it.
It has to go. We need legislature to take it off the shelves! It "distracts" people from having a healthy lifestyle! In fact let's just go all the way and take ALL the coffee creamer off the shelves and only leave the fat free stuff. The government can make SURE we are all making healthy choices by making them for us!
If this sounds a bit far fetched let me just clarify. New York and Arkansas have new legislation on the books that would ban people from using cell phones or IPODs while running or walking. I can understand limiting cell phones while in cars. But walking? One of my favorite things to do is go to the park and get on the phone while I walk around the track. If I had an IPOD and good knees I can assure you that I would be running around the track with the music going full blast. Just so I don't paint these legislators as totally insane, they HAVE made a concession that you can use one earphone or earbud while you run, therefore not completely robbing you of all your entertainment. I can also tell you that nothing would irritate me more than trying to run with only one earbud. That would just be wrong. Ask any runner and they will tell you the same. If you get caught with two earbuds in New York, watch out! They are proposing a 100 dollar fine!
I think I will stay in Texas just a bit longer and hope this doesn't catch on.
Where oh WHERE does it end?? WHY do I need legislation to tell me what is and what is not safe?? Can't we, the American people be TRUSTED to make good decisions, such as looking both ways before we cross the street with our cell phones? Can't we be trusted to make sure we don't walk into traffic and cause an accident at a crosswalk?? Do they really think we are that stupid? WAIT-don't answer that question, because it's obvious they do! If we trip on the curb and stub a toe or sprain an ankle can we ourselves bear the burden of the injury without the government's interference? Do we REALLY, REALLY need to spend a billion (more) dollars tax payer's money to make new rules about IPODs and cell phones? What will happen when technology moves on, will we spend MORE money adding IPADs to the list? Hand held video games? How about eating? That can cause a distraction. One time I saw a terrier running down the street in a tiny little gray sweatshirt. I was distracted! Should we ban terriers? Little gray sweatshirts?
In short, the government cannot pass legislation that can keep us safe. It's up to us, and I think we, the American people, can handle the job.
Now back to my coffee. I just chose to gain another pound. And it's OK. I will take the responsibility.
